Urinary Tract Infection & CranMax Cranberry

Cran-Max® Cranberry for preventing Urinary Tract Infections

Urinary tract infections (UTIs) represent a recurrent health problem, especially for women. More than 50% of women will suffer from a UTI at least once in their lifetime. Escherichia coli (E. coli) accounts for most cases. Treatment usually involves antibiotics and recurrence is a major concern.

It happens anywhere in your urinary tract (kidneys/ureters/bladder/urethra). Most UTIs only involve the urethra and bladder in the lower tract. Although upper tract UTIs (which involve ureters and kidneys) are rarer than lower tract UTIs, they are usually more severe.

Cran-Max® Cranberry for prevention of Urinary Tract Infection

Cran-Max® Cranberry

Cran-Max® is the only cranberry extract made using the patented Bio-Shield™ technology. Bio-Shield™ is designed to protect the anthocyanins and phenols from destruction by gastric acid in the stomach, delivering the nutrients to the lower gastrointestinal tract where they can be easily absorbed through a time-release mechanism. Cran-Max® has been clinically shown to help promote a healthy urinary tract.

Cran-Max® is a controlled and slow-released proanthocyanidin (PAC) in gastric acid compared to other cranberry products or juice. Proanthocyanidins are stable phenolic compounds that possess antiviral, antibacterial, anti-adhesion, or antioxidant properties.

Anti-adhesion property prevents the uropathogens from adhering to the uroepithelial cells in the urinary tract, prohibiting colonization and infection. It is able to reduce the biofilm load of both Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria on the uroepithelial cells. These physiological changes of bacteria make attachment is impossible.

Cost-Effective Prevention for UTIs

In a study by the Department of Surgery and the Department of Health and Epidemiology at the University of British Columbia of 150 women aged 21 through 72 found that Cran-Max® proved the most cost-effective prevention for UTIs. Cran-Max® tablet groups had decreased number of UTIs, Cran-Max® was more effective and was more than two times cheaper than cranberry juice.

A better choice compared to cranberry juice

One 500 mg dose of Cran-Max® provides the same amount of anthocyanines as 7 glasses of cranberry juice cocktail, without all the sugar. Moreover, Cran-Max® (cranberry capsules) is a better choice compared to cranberry juice as capsules are more convenient, cheaper and may overcome compliance issues for some individuals due to unpalatable taste of pure unsweetened cranberry juice.

Prevention of recurrent UTIs

A double-blind study in Paris, only 10.8 % of patients consuming cranberry with Bio-Shield™ technology (36 mg PAC) suffered recurrent lower urinary tract infection compared with 18.9% of patients in other cranberry group (36 mg PAC) and 43.2% of patients in the placebo group over the 45 days study period.

Patented Cran-Max® cranberry supplement is nearly twice as effective as other cranberry extract capsule in reducing the recurrence of lower urinary tract infections (UTIs).
